The rumor is that J.J. Abrams will be directing Star Wars Episode VII: A New Lens Flare. I for one think that he is a logical choice since, like Joss Whedon, he has created humongous television success which can help expand a movie universe (that is if Whedon and Marvel Studios are the template for creating these movie universes). However, the fanboy in me wants to stab him because, let's face it, he rebooted Star Trek, modernized it, and made it really good for new fans to join the series (even though true believer Trekkies still complain). In fact, that one film surpassed all the Star Wars prequels and put Star Trek in the fast track to knocking Star Wars out of the galaxy. Then, Disney aquired Lucasfilm and Star Wars, like Chumbawamba, got back up again. You're never gonna keep the force down. Speculation has run wild, but this newest information has yet to be officially confirmed...but it hasn't been denied yet either. Who knows what is store for Abrams or either of these franchises? Will Chumbawamba officially score the movie? So many questions lurking and rumors popping up daily. It's a very exciting time to be a science fiction fan!
UPDATE: J.J. Abrams has been confirmed for Star Wars: Episode VII. Still no word on Chumbawamba's involvement.
